The worst ordeal of all was the malaria. The nearest hospital, run by Dr. Hillel Yaffe, was in the Moshava Zichron Ya'akov. The devoted physician, who was loved by the people of Hadera, would come on a horseback to treat the sick. In winter time, when he was unable to cross the Hadera River, they were treated by a male nurse at the K'han. In the living- room, a couple is having an argument over their prospects in Hadera. |

At the end of the conversation, two
shots announcing the arrival of a messenger are heard. He brings cheering news - the philanthropist Baron Edmond de Rothschild
has promised to dry up the malarial swamps, and forty building permits were granted by the Turkish authorities.
A feeling of relief is expressed by the family. In the center of the eastern wall are displayed the "Articles of Association" of the Hadera settlement of 1891, written in Hebrew. Since the settlers aspired to create an advanced society , progressive rules, governing moral and social conduct were in included in the document. |
